Under 12 girls earn a great victory over Maynooth

There was a strong gale blowing when we arrived in Maynooth. Our captain Lucy Hanlon won the toss and so we played with the wind in the first half.

Castleknock did not wait long to take advantage of the wind. Catherine Leahy scored a goal after only 3 minutes and another at the 5 minute mark.

Castleknock did not rest on their laurels and Hayley Dixon got her name on the score sheet five minutes later. Áine Waters stretched the lead 5-0 after 22 minutes.

Ellie Wilde got another goal before the half time whistle to give us a comfortable 6 goal cushion at the break.

The 2nd half was very different. Maynooth took full advantage of the wind to pile on the pressure. But it was Áine Waters who got the first sore after 12 minutes. Maynooth replied shortly afterwards to leave the score 7-1.

The score remained the same for most of the remainder of the match. Near the end Niamh O'Donovan scored a goal. This inspired Ciara Brady and Hayley Dixon to follow suit and leave the final score a decisive 10-1 victory for the visitors.

With so many great performances it is hard to pick out a player of the match. We finally decided that Hayley Dixon was most deserving of the title.
